ABW's E-bike Service Center mechanics are trained to work on a wide variety of brands and motors.

We are an official GIANT E-bike Service Center and service their Synchdrive Yamaha motors and are additionally certified to service SRAM Powertrain, BOSCH and SHIMANO E-bike motors.

Our master mechanics can provide full service for those brands that use these motors including most GIANT, LIV, SANTA CRUZ, JULIANA, IBIS, YETI, GT, BOREALIS, MOMENTUM and TRANSITION E-bikes.

As part of our service, we provide battery diagnostics and testing, firmware diagnostics and upgrades as well as running controller diagnostics and upgrading it as necessary.

This allows our customers a one-stop destination for all their E-bike mechanical and electrical service needs.

TUNE-UPS

Standard: $211.00

Due to the complexity of e-Bikes, Alpine Bike Works will only provide electrical diagnostic services on models offered by our manufacturers.  However, we are happy to assist with mechanical services on non-supported brands.  Lithium-ion batteries will be removed from the bike and sent home with the customer.

MAINTENANCE TIPS

1. BATTERIES

The most significant difference between a regular bike and an e-bike is the battery.

It's best to keep the battery at an ambient temperature, not too hot or too cold is important. If you live in a moderate climate, the battery can be left in an outdoor structure, garage, etc. In very cold or hot climates, keeping it inside your home will do a lot to prolong its life.

When storing the battery, best to keep it fully charged - never empty. Also avoid leaving being charges past when it is fully charged.

2. DRIVE TRAIN

As with regular bikes, a regular part of riding is to keep your chain ring and cassette clean and the chain clean and lubricated.

Mid-motor e-bikes will exert a more force on the chain than regular bikes, so maintaining the drive train should be done more frequently. 

The frequency of service depends on the amount of miles you ride and the exposure to water, mud and/or dirt. As a conservative rule of thumb is to check these every other ride to be sure.

A wax-based chain lube, such as Hard Rock - that both cleans and lubricates the chain, is best. Always avoid getting the lube on your braking surfaces. If it does, cleaning them with either a specific brake cleaner or isopropyl alcohol.

With hub motors, the spokes in the rear wheel will experience more stress than with regular bikes and should be checked and re-tightened on a monthly basis.

3. WASHING

Avoid power washers or submerging the bike under water. It is recommended to clean the e-bike with brushes and clean cloths. Spray bottle degreasers are OK to use for removing grease and if water is needed, use a slow stream and avoid getting it in the electronics, wheel, bottom bracket and stem bearings and suspension joints.

4. TIRES

You will be able to cover greater distances on an e-bike than you can on an ordinary bike plus they are heavier. Always inspect the tires after every ride and remove any debris, glass, etc.

Check the tire pressure before each ride and top off to maintain the recommended tire pressure.

5. BRAKES

Because of the potentially higher speeds attainable on e-bikes and their higher weights, a higher force force is required from the brakes to slow and bring the e-bike to a stop.

If the brakes have lost some of their stopping ability, check the brake pads to make sure at least half of the pad is still available. Also, clean the brake rotors using a clean rag and a dedicated brake cleaning product.

Never touch the brake rotors with your bare hands as it will potentially reduce the braking power and make the brakes squeak. If this happens, clean the area with the dedicated brake cleaner and clean cloth. After any cleaning, you might have to bed-in your pads by getting up to speed and using the brakes evenly to slow to walking pace a couple of times.
